Shangri-La Frontier

For this blog post, I decided to watch an episode of an anime. I chose one that I have already started since enrolling in this course, and was also recommended by my brother. I don't usually watch anime, or anything for that matter, during the school year. But since I want to listen to more Japanese audio, I figured that watching an episode of an anime here and there wouldn't hurt.

Shangri-La Frontier is about a student who likes to play VR games and has a tendency to play, and beat, VR games that were deemed "bad." Therefore, the current game he is playing is actually one of the best VR games, which he is playing to take a break from the badly made games. The current episode that I am writing about is taking place in the VR game and the main characters are playing against a special-grade level monster that is very difficult to beat. This arc actually takes up about 4 episodes, and this current one marks the end of it.

While I was watching this episode, and the previous ones, I was definitely able to recognize the words we have learned in class. Furthermore, I also recognized the various grammatical structures we have learned, such as ~たい and て-form usage. I was quite excited whenever I heard something that I recognized. I had English subtitles on which definitely helped to put together the familiar pieces. Since this anime is about fighting and gaming, I was a bit hesitant about whether or not I would recognize any words or structures. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the little things that I was able to notice.

このアニメはとてもおもしろくて楽しいです!

  1. I can definitely relate to not having time to watch shows during the school year. The anime seems interesting I might have to check it out.
